Ever since 2007, Rotaract Blue of the Cayman Islands has been hosting an annual gala called, Open Arms. Spearheaded by Rotaract Blue’s, Open Arms is project primarily geared towards raising funds but also seeks to shed light on the issues of the special needs community. It is such a worthy cause that Celebrations for the past few years has been privileged to be the events decor sponsor.
Every year, the gala has a special theme and this year’s was “Arabian Nights”. Tasked to turn Ristorante Pappagallo into a mystical desert oasis, with the use of colorful fabrics, middle Eastern patterns, intricate lanterns and bright flowers, we turned the venue from a mere mirage into an exotic reality.
Guests were welcomed with glasses of bubbly and were entertained by exotic belly dancers. Soon after, guests were enticed to join them and were taught basic belly dancing moves.
Upon entering the dining area, guests were transported to a far away land with the use of lush fabrics, beautiful lighting and exotic decor accents.
During the dinner, awards were given to outstanding members of the special needs community of the Cayman Islands as recognition to all their success despite their disabilities. Awards were also given to family members, caretakers, teachers and people who work within the special needs community. The award recipients are selected from nominations provided by the community.
The guest speaker, Chelsea Rivers, gave a very moving speech on how it is to be helpless and also provided insight on the many ways that we can extend our assistance to the special needs community.
Overall, it was a night of fine dining, good company, and a great cause, one that Celebrations is extremely proud to be a part of. Congratulations once again to Rotaract Blue for another successful Open Arms Gala!
